• CLASSIFICATION OF RARE DISEASES; A COMMENT ON ‘ATLAS OF ESOPHAGEAL ATRESIA'

    Esophageal atresia is the most common congenital anomaly of esophagus with different anatomical variations. Congenital esophageal web is one of these rarely seen variations and can only be classified in Kluth's classification. Kluth reported a very detailed classification of all variants of esophageal anomalies in 1976 in Journal of Pediatric Surgery. He classified EA into ten subgroups according to anatomy of upper and lower pouches, distance of gap, and presence of stenosis, membrane, duplication and esophagobronchial abnormalities .
