Down syndrome is a common genetic disorder that has cognitive consequences. People with DS exhibit age-related neurodegeneration and tend to develop Alzheimer's disease .1 Senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles , common pathological changes in AD, have been detected in the brain of DS adults older than 30ཞ40 years.2 β-amyloid peptide , a neurotoxic hydrolyzed product of amyloid precursor protein, plays a role in SPs formation and relates to cognitive and mental behavior disorders.
