• A 54-year-old man with knee septic arthritis, worsening pain

    A 54-year-old man with a history of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar 1 disorder and IV drug use presented to the ED with 2 weeks of slowly worsening right knee/leg pain and difficulty bearing weight.
    Two months prior, at another hospital, the patient had undergone arthroscopic right knee irrigation and debridement with a small open I&D of an abscess over the anteromedial proximal tibia.
