    Glial fibrillary acidic protein is an astrocyte-specific protein that has previously been associated with Alexander disease in humans. Recently, a novel autoantibody against GFAP in humans was discovered and characterized1. Subsequently, 102 patients (though only one was in the pediatric age range) who were found to have a meningoencephalitis caused by anti-GFAP IgG were characterized2. Here, we present a pediatric patient with autoimmune meningoencephalomyelitis caused by GFAP autoantibodies.
